Amy Heffernan, right on trend.

Amy Heffernan, right on trend.

At the Galway fashion Revolution I bumped into Amy Heffernan and I just had to take her picture!! shes bang on trend with an amazing sequined jacket(which I  recently found out is from Penneys , 21 euros what a bargain!!which I was surprised by I thought it was All Saints or the likes!!)

Anyways, Amy looked like (in my opinion)a young Kirsten Dunst, and was rocking this seasons platformed ankle boots and tight black mini-skirt combo! A plain loose white vest and similarly loose hair creates an altogther laid back , I didnt try too hard look, effortless cool( plus I love the minimal accesories and simple headband). Thanks for posing for a picture Amy, sorry it took so long for me to put it up!

FASHION FOR FREEDOM, A LIFE DOESNT HAVE A PRICE TAG!On July 22nd in the Radisson Hotel world renowned Fashion Designers, along with Discovery Church and Galway Fashion Revolution to bring you Fashion For Freedom: A Life Doesn’t Have a Price Tag, a benefit show to raise money for Free For Life, an organisation fighting human trafficking. I was delighted to show at this event and help raise money for such a great cause, and it all happened by chance when the organiser of the event found me on Facebook.  I was priveleged to share the stage with some of Irelands greatest designers, Jennifer Rothwell, Claire Garvey, Rachel Mackay, and Eileen Sheilds to name but a few. As well as this I got to meet ( well so much as I made sure I introduced myself to) Criscilla Crossland-Anderson and her husband Coffey Anderson, as well as Tara Perez. Crisilla was selected by none other then Britney Spears for several of her music videos and her last tour as well as other stars like Kelly Clarkson, Katie Perry, Britney Spears, Pussycat Dolls, Romeo, Baby Bash, Sean Kingston, Akon, Cassidy, P. Diddy, Kelly Rowland, Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas, Rooney, Nelly Fertado, Lil Wayne, Joss Stone, Natasha Bedingfield, Blink 182, Left Eye, Macy Gray, Snoop Dogg, Tyrese, Wango Tango, Ne-Yo, Chingy, Tatu, Kanye West, Ludacris and more!! She has made appearances in Hanna Montana The Movie, Bedtime Stories, Fired Up, Alvin and The Chipmunks, Accepted, Fat Albert, Celebrity Rap Superstar, Las Vegas, Bones, Drake & Josh, and That’s So Raven.

Now im a huge fan of anything dance as my friends know (Strictly Come Dancing, So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing With The Stars, so to me this was a huge deal, Criscilla also had recently walked the catwalks in the Christian Audigier Ed Hardy show in Los Angeles, I love Ed Hardy (if I could afford it) so meeting Crisilla was amazing and she and her husband are the nicest people you could ever meet.

As well as song and dance there was some amazing fashion on show too. Avant Garde designer Claire Garvey really stood out to me, a strong mix of  textures, fabrics, and mediums made for a really eye catching show. Let your dreams come true, according to Claire’s website, imagine yourself a princess and Claire will make it happen(check out www.clairegarvey.com for more information)

As well as myself and Claire in the show, there was Rachel Mackay who set the catwalk alight with bright pinks and beautiful knits, and Zoe Boomer who I also met at the event. Zoe is from Northern Ireland and is based in London, she sells in Ireland, England, and Scotland, as well as having agents in Vancouver and LA. Zoe , only uses the best silks and silk-chiffons, and creates pieces that are simple, stylish and luxurious while still being sassy, and are great pieces to take you from day to night. Vanessa hudgens

Vanessa hudgens

Last week in the good old U S of  A was the teen choice awards, and the stars were out in  style. Some were absolutly to die for, like Vanessa Hudgens seen here, in a navy Christian Dior mini-dress. To me its sitting on the right side of gothic, with a teasing  scolloped detail around the neckline, the ornate belt adds a bit of edge and keeps the dress cutting edge and youthful (but Vanessa for once get that long hair,as nice as it is, back off your shoulders, an amazing dress like that should be high-lighted not covered up.  Some, in my opinion, were a tad predictable, like Hayden pannetiere, ok so its Zac Posen and not Herve Leger for once but even though the shape does indeed suit her, its the same old kind of shape we always see her in at every event, tight and tight. We know you’ve got a killer body, but your young and have a lot of money you can afford to be a little adventurous!!

Megan Fox

Megan Fox

So this might be the only time you hear me say this as I love love love Megan Fox, but I really dont like her choice of dress here. Its cute and its short but thats about as far as it goes, this pale champagne colour does nothing but wash megan out. I think stronger colours suit her better, the only thing going for her is the neckline, it highlights her great cleavege!!
Jordana Brewster

Jordana Brewster

Another actress’s great dress was Jordana Brewster in ice white Herve Leger, its cool clean lines and unusual neckline make for crisp look, but her minimal accesories and loosely tied back hair keep her look funky and not fussy.
Audrina Patridge

Audrina Patridge

For once I love Audrinas look here, somtimes she can look quite slutty to say the least, but this is funky and demure at the same time, her chunky necklace and colour clash shoes make this purple dress really pop.

Leighton Meester

Leighton Meester

I love Leighton Meester, and I love this Louis Vuitton dress, this is one lady who is never afriad to try something new and experiment. She always looks pristine and polished, but not overly so, unlike her Gossip Girl character she knows how to let her hair down and wear cutting edge. I recently read on another blog that a certain black cut-away dress Leighton wore not so long ago was a fashion disaster and compared her to a sumo-wrestler??? mmm yes I see the resemblence!!

Leighton Meester Sumo-Wrestler??

And finally, someone who I havent seen in a while, Christina Ricci wears a stunning Azzedine Alaia fire red mini-dress at the Inglorious Basterds premiere.  Theres nothing better then an eye popping dress and Louboutin heels (in my dreams)

So the inspiration started out as “When Harry Met Sally”…and i think i did a pretty darn good job. Julieanne looked amazing on the night of her birthday. Its always great to see how something can go from fabric to finished piece, and to see the client delighted with the results!

………and it all started out with an unusual idea, sometimes the best things come from the most unlikely of places. Everytime someone comes to me with a new idea of what they would like me to make ,im surprised, I thought I knew who I was as a designer but I guess inspiration from other people is always a good thing, keeps me on my toes!!

what am I up to this week??

Im just a girl who cant say no..Im in a terrible fix….

So Im working on something top secret at the moment, and julieannes dress featured below, and i just cant say no. Ive been asked to make another gown and bikini this year for another finalist in miss universe ireland, maybe im a bit of a lucky charm?? im not releasing any details at all until the dress has been seen ( and maybe even win the thing) but i know the bikini should be tropical themed, mmm get the thinking cap on!!

the ony bikini that stood out on the night

the ony bikini that stood out on the night

so last year I met lynn through a friend, and initially I was only meant to make her bikini as she needed a gold one and couldnt find one anywhere in Dublin. I never did make her that bikini, we some how got around to talking about dresses instead, and an idea Lynn had herself for a bikini she had in mind……and the rest is history. Watching it on tv I wished I had of gone on the night(even just to shout at the announcer its BOURKE..not BYRNE)It was amazing to see the gown I made n spent hours slaving over splashed all over nearly every paper the next day, even if no-one knew it was me who made it. I stood in the shop accross from where I work smiling and pointing wildly at the newspaper stand. (“I did that” was all I could  mutter at some guy standing nearby, im sure he thought id lost it altogether)  It was thanks to this that I got to do some other great jobs over the past year.
The girl (and the dress) that stole the show

The girl (and the dress) that stole the show

I got to work with Assets model and actress Ruth O Neill and make her 21st dress which was inspired (ok nearly directly copied but fuck it) by Cheryl Coles dress from the Kit Kat ad. Plunging neckline, short and sassy, and loads of sparkle, it was great fun ( fun? more like incredibly complicated, circular side panels=disaster but it all worked out in the end) to make and looked amazing on Ruth on the night (I have Lynn to thank for this one too, Thanks for passing on my phone number there XX)

I made quite a few debs dresses last summer and I was delighted that no-one I worked with wanted something boring. Aislinn was no exception, she wanted something classic but contemporary at the same time , so together we came up with a strapless creation with a large over sized bow on the shoulder ( that was detachable just in case it got a bit boring throughout the night)

I loved doing Aines 21st dress last October, once again it was mainly Aines design and I just made the final idea. it fitted her like a glove and red looks amazing on her.
if you have a special occasion coming up in the future dont hesitate to contact me and tell me the idea you have? no idea to ridiculous!!

I like when someone approaches me with new fresh ideas of something special they want made, feels like im making them their dream dress, but when Julieanne asked me to make her 21st dress I thought she had lost the plot altogether. When she told me she wanted something inspired by “When Harry met Sally” I thought what the hell?, but then I started draping on the stand and putting it together and soon enough I could see it.  Julieanne could pull off a black bag ( now this image is only a toille so u will have to stay tuned for future posts to see the real thing, its really going to be in cream), and initially I was sceptical of its appeal but now seeing her in it I think its hot!

    Im a Semi-Celebrity…….Please remember me!!

im a semi celebrity...leave them behind!!
im a semi celebrity…leave them behind!!

Ok dont get me wrong im a big fan of The Hills, Laguna Beach(not so much The City), but I mainly watch them to see what to see what other stupid shit they are going to get themselves involved in. Spidey fight, they get back together, they fight again and they get married??(oh and she spends her wedding day tweeting updates of how much shes enjoying the day mmmm believable??) and now they are set to go one step beyond that again………….and enter the jungle. is there no ends these people will go to to make money, or is it infact a chance to grab the slightest bit of fame they can, all in all its a bit sad.

This newish phenomenon of being famous for just being slightly famous is a sad state of affairs, in years to come Heidi (and millions like her)will still be trying to flog her story to any old magazine……you remember me dont u…I was on a tv show once, I had a god awful clothing line,  I had somekind of god awful song and video that was huge on you tube!! In my opinion the world had (yes I mean had!)so much money it seemed like a great idea at the time to pump money into these young stars, this is fine if they have the talent to back them up, but these girls are good at…well looking good, and even the best branding in the world wont see you on a sure thing.

Dont even get me started on LC, what the hell, she might be a lovely girl and im all about having business savvy being an entrepreneur, branding yourself, but hello if you dont succeed at something dont just try your hand at everything. Yes shes going down the book route, she has written a novel based on a girl being followed around being filmed in LA..mmm..she really took a big leap there. Isnt writing a novel not about you but is infact really about you a cop out, did she not have the balls to just write and autobiography (thought there is way too many of them floating about) and tell all the gossip without hiding behind an alter ego?

Her first failure (that is a bit harsh…but true)  was  the Lauren Conrad Collection, to me it was  the most bog standard and over priced range I have ever seen.

boring with leggings, boring with leggings, boring with tights

boring with leggings, boring with leggings, boring with tights

If I had produced that standard of work in college I would have been kicked out, ok some of it is nice, a bit twee a lot safe. Its not what i would have expected from someone who is always dressed so well, there is the rumour that she had little involvement in the design process and that infact someone else designed it?? she insists this isnt true by saying  her collection was a “dream come true” (really its more a nightmare to me, what an oportunity wasted) I have heard that she wants to do more of a high-end line in the future with more expensive…im very iffy on this, in my opinion until you have actually made gowns its impossible to design them, granted I dont know the girl but if she had that definitly would have been highlighted previously in” The Hills”.

Whitney is the only one among them who has a bit of cop on and talent, and even she had the sense to move on to bigger (and hopefully better) things. She also had balls not to jump on the “brand wagon”, Heidi should have done that…..Heidiwood…..enough said!

As I just said that I googled Whitney, Im ashamed to say yes she does have her own line (Whitney Eve) and yes it is very very over priced. A plain black chiffon skirt is $198 and a simple floral dress is $340, shocking!! Aboslute!! all comments welcome

Sinead shows how its done

Sinead shows how its done

Cant touch

this!

This week I spotted Sinead keogh rocking harem pants, now normally I wouldnt be into this kind of thing at all but sinead has a way of making anything look good. Sinead got this pair in Berska, but similar kinds can be found right accross the high street.

Until recently they were cluttering the back of peoples wardrobes, relic’s from the 1980’s, and we have one man to thank for bringing them out of the “Harem” and in to fruitition…….MC Hammer. The parachute pants were the thing to have, but the trend of the moment is a lot more clean and tailored, and  a lot more cool looking then you might think?

Main things to remember, they have to be worn with chunky high shoes or ankle boots (channel the Olsen twins and your on the right track). Because they are so loose around the crotch and the knees, like Sinead, you must balance out the top half with something more tightly fitted and simple in its shape (over sized T’s are a no no here). Sinead has topped the look off with a side plait with a twist, which is bang on trend, a discarded piece of jersey cut from the bottom of a dress that was once too long is woven in with the plait to give this look something a little extra!!

Now dont get me wrong, you wont see me wearing them ( unfortunately I dont have the body shape or the want). There is a solution though, the taper legged trouser, similar to the harem pant but a lot more flattering and cropped to the shin normally with a rolled up cuff. A lot of Irish people dont like to try anything too mad and like to keep it safe, so I think the taper legged, or peg legged trouser is the way to go. (I have my eye on a certain pair of dove grey ones, Im not afraid to admit Im building up the balls to buy them)
