Amy Heffernan, right on trend.

Amy Heffernan, right on trend.

At the Galway fashion Revolution I bumped into Amy Heffernan and I just had to take her picture!! shes bang on trend with an amazing sequined jacket(which I  recently found out is from Penneys , 21 euros what a bargain!!which I was surprised by I thought it was All Saints or the likes!!)

Anyways, Amy looked like (in my opinion)a young Kirsten Dunst, and was rocking this seasons platformed ankle boots and tight black mini-skirt combo! A plain loose white vest and similarly loose hair creates an altogther laid back , I didnt try too hard look, effortless cool( plus I love the minimal accesories and simple headband). Thanks for posing for a picture Amy, sorry it took so long for me to put it up!

FASHION FOR FREEDOM, A LIFE DOESNT HAVE A PRICE TAG!On July 22nd in the Radisson Hotel world renowned Fashion Designers, along with Discovery Church and Galway Fashion Revolution to bring you Fashion For Freedom: A Life Doesn’t Have a Price Tag, a benefit show to raise money for Free For Life, an organisation fighting human trafficking. I was delighted to show at this event and help raise money for such a great cause, and it all happened by chance when the organiser of the event found me on Facebook.  I was priveleged to share the stage with some of Irelands greatest designers, Jennifer Rothwell, Claire Garvey, Rachel Mackay, and Eileen Sheilds to name but a few. As well as this I got to meet ( well so much as I made sure I introduced myself to) Criscilla Crossland-Anderson and her husband Coffey Anderson, as well as Tara Perez. Crisilla was selected by none other then Britney Spears for several of her music videos and her last tour as well as other stars like Kelly Clarkson, Katie Perry, Britney Spears, Pussycat Dolls, Romeo, Baby Bash, Sean Kingston, Akon, Cassidy, P. Diddy, Kelly Rowland, Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas, Rooney, Nelly Fertado, Lil Wayne, Joss Stone, Natasha Bedingfield, Blink 182, Left Eye, Macy Gray, Snoop Dogg, Tyrese, Wango Tango, Ne-Yo, Chingy, Tatu, Kanye West, Ludacris and more!! She has made appearances in Hanna Montana The Movie, Bedtime Stories, Fired Up, Alvin and The Chipmunks, Accepted, Fat Albert, Celebrity Rap Superstar, Las Vegas, Bones, Drake & Josh, and That’s So Raven.

Now im a huge fan of anything dance as my friends know (Strictly Come Dancing, So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing With The Stars, so to me this was a huge deal, Criscilla also had recently walked the catwalks in the Christian Audigier Ed Hardy show in Los Angeles, I love Ed Hardy (if I could afford it) so meeting Crisilla was amazing and she and her husband are the nicest people you could ever meet.

As well as song and dance there was some amazing fashion on show too. Avant Garde designer Claire Garvey really stood out to me, a strong mix of  textures, fabrics, and mediums made for a really eye catching show. Let your dreams come true, according to Claire’s website, imagine yourself a princess and Claire will make it happen(check out www.clairegarvey.com for more information)

As well as myself and Claire in the show, there was Rachel Mackay who set the catwalk alight with bright pinks and beautiful knits, and Zoe Boomer who I also met at the event. Zoe is from Northern Ireland and is based in London, she sells in Ireland, England, and Scotland, as well as having agents in Vancouver and LA. Zoe , only uses the best silks and silk-chiffons, and creates pieces that are simple, stylish and luxurious while still being sassy, and are great pieces to take you from day to night. (check out www.zoeboomer.com for more)

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, that was the motto of the R3 fashion competition 09.

I had high hopes for the entrants in this years highly anticipated student fashion competition. I judged the event alongside Miss Universe Ireland and stylist Emily O Donnell, and my latest collection was being previewed on the night before the competition took place. To be honest i had been so busy sewing for weeks previous that i didnt even think about the judging  part until i was sitting in the hot seat, then i began to feel the pressure. I had high expectations for the competitors on the night, and as it was a recycling competiton i was looking for a clever use of materials.
I wasnt disapointed, the outfits ranged from the wierd to the wonderful and everything from jigsaws to old records were used. Now I have to be honest, there was a lot of bad outfits, not terrible, but it seemed like they hadnt been thought through properly and looked a little slap-dash on the night. For me there were three or four clear finalists, one being the Darling Buds, a clever use of old flowers and I was impressed by the fit of the garment it was really something u would have seen on the high street.  We asked to go back stage to see all the garments up close, to be a bit nosey really, and I was very surprised how repetitive a few of them were, a lot of melted plastic and melted plastic, come on guys this has all been done to death before has no one done their research here?  One outfit that really popped to me was Tokyo Trash, it was genius, kidswear, nobody else thought outside the box, it was right on trend full of candy colours and was made from the remnants of a childs birthday party and even came with its own sun parasol. Trashionistas was another one that really caught my eye, old bicycle tyres were cut in to strips and the finished piece resembled a twenties flapper dress,  a real show stopper.
The winner for me hands down was Katie Ryans “Fare Frocks” and was made from wire from a building site and 436 bus tickets. When I saw her model come down the catwalk I seriously thought I was seeing things, I could have sworn it was made from lace she manipulated the bus tickets so well, very Alexander McQueen. I was even more impressed when I found out that she hadnt even done her leaving cert yet, I can only imagine what her portfolio is like.
"Fare Frocks"

"Fare Frocks"My own collection on the night got a great response, and I was delighted it all looked to good, theres nothing more thrilling then seeing your hard work go down a catwalk. Id like to say a big thank you to all the models who helped with the event, Aoife,Sinead,Fran, Michelle,Megan, Jodie, and Joy, as well as Ciara on hair and Terri on make-up. You all did a great job girls thank you so much. A big thank you has to go to photographer Lynn Rothwell who took all the photos for the mini photoshoot we had on the day. And thanks to Stillorgan College of Further Education for asking me to be involved with the event.Me, Emily, and Lynn picking the winner
